"And how many examinations did you take?"

"I had taken 18."

"What made you decide to choose such a number that most people wouldn't even think about taking?"

"Well the major thing was that, the amount that I took was the amount that I felt comfortable with. I wouldn't advice anyone to take something that they're not comfortable with. And apart from the main subjects in my curriculum, I took subjects that I felt like I could have handled. For example the business subjects, and my teacher Mr. Ortiz helped me with. I took Music, which Ms. Staine, another teacher helped me with, and things like PE and EDP&M that aren't normally in the curriculum or taught to me by teacher at SJC and that really helped me out through the experience. And that's why I picked that amount of CXCs."

"How was it like preparing for the CSEC?"

Rhiki Alegria - Most Outstanding Student 2016 CSEC
"Preparing for CSEC wasn't easy. It was a lot of work, but I kept motivated and when there was times of difficulty my parents and my friends would help me through them, and that's how I made it through the experience."

Before we left Alegria to continue celebrating his success, he gave some advice to all the fourth formers who will be taking their exams next year.

Rhiki Alegria - Most Outstanding Student 2016 CSEC
"The biggest piece of advice that I would have is not to take an amount of CXCs that you don't feel comfortable with. The ones that you actually take you should try your best, put your best foot toward in them, but don't push yourself where you don't feel comfortable with because all that will end up happening is that you'll probably end up just stressing out yourself, so just take the amount you feel comfortable with, keep motivated and just try your best to do well."

Irene Gisselle Flores from EP York was named the Outstanding Candidate, the equivalent of second place, for earning 13 Grade 1s.

Belize's high school students aren't the only ones who saw major success in their exams. Five Sixth Form students will be receiving Certificates of Honor for their performance in the CAPE examinations. SJCJC's Jose Guerrero is the Most Outstanding Candidate for his five Grade I's and three (3) Grade II's. For that performance, he is the winner of the Belize Scholarship for 2016. We are told he is currently studying in Cuba.

Nadiya Sedasey, also of St. John's College Junior College is the Outstanding Candidate, meaning she got second place overall. She earned six (6) Grade I's.

All outstanding students will be recognized at the 22nd Annual CXC Award Ceremony on November 23rd.
