NCFC Says “Enough Is Enough” Re: Kids Who Died In Fire
posted (November 1, 2016)
Last week Thursday, we reported on the house fire in the Conch Shell Bay area which claimed the life 2 year-old Kaylee Alvarez. She was the second child to perish in a fire in October in Belize City, and today, the National Committee for Families and Children (NCFC) said enough is enough.

Their statement says, quote, "NCFC is deeply bothered by these random...fires that are apparently becoming a new trend of claiming innocent lives of children … As parents, we ought to be mindful that children will be children; children are very curious and experimental...parents must ensure that the environment is safe… we cannot take things for granted or assume that children are aware of the harm that can occur when in possession of these items or unsupervised." End quote.

The NCFC reminds that under the laws of Belize, parents have responsibility to protect children from, "discrimination, violence, abuse and neglect".

The close their statement saying, quote, "As we continue to care for our children, it is with hope that as parents/ guardians, we will do all that we can to ensure and if possible, avoid these kinds of incidents from reoccurring. After all, our children's safety should be our paramount responsibility". End Quote.
