BEL Linemen To Bahamas and Back
posted (November 1, 2016)
Last week we told you about the seven BEL Linemen who went to the Bahamas to help restore power to the island nation in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. They were called upon by CARILEC, a regional association of electricity providers, and today they returned home after helping to restore power to nearly 80% of the country. One of the members of that crew, Ronald Young, spoke about the work they did in the Bahamas.

Ronald Young - Lineman Leadhand, BEL
"No truck had access to the area that we were working, so everything had to be done manually. We had to climbed the poles, A3 poles, LV poles, everything. Had to change out insulators, everything was done manually by the Belize crew. The expectation from Bahamas was like that would have been a three week job, and the Belize crew with assistance of the Grenada crew we did a great job, and restored the power back real quick. Everybody was happy, the people from Bahamas didn't want us to come back to Belize."

Belize was one of eight Caribbean countries to send a crew out to the Bahamas.
