Our next story is about charging a bus driver because he was carrying standees. Now, if you're a regular commuter you're probably checking your calendar to make sure this isn't some kind of April Fool's day prank - because…standees? That's such an everyday occurrence that it's like cracking down on mosquitoes after a hard rain.
But, as out of place as it may seem, a Benque bus driver was slapped with a fine dollars for having 15 persons in excess on board his bus. It happened on October 13, 2016 between Miles 14 and 15 on the Western Highway.
23 year old Wajib Guerra from Benque Viejo town was arraigned before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza in the Belize City Magistrate's Court for a single charge of carrying passengers in excess. He wasted no time and pleaded guilty. He was fined $500 dollars, which he was ordered to pay before January 3, 2017, or, in default, serve 5 months in prison.
