Cubs Victory Brings Joy To Belize
posted (November 3, 2016)
Tonight, Chicago Cubs fans all over the world are basking in the afterglow of victory because those loveable losers are losers no more. The "Cubbies" broke the longest championship drought in any major US sport last night when they won the deciding game 7 of the World Series - in what's being called one of the greatest games ever. And why not? The Cubs did it in extra innings, on the road, after coming back from a 3 - 1 series deficit. It gets no more dramatic than that - and throughout the game, where the score against the Cleveland Indians was up and down, true fans got a mixture of butterflies and blood pressure - wondering if the legendary curse of the goat could be overcome at all. We sat in with some of those familiar fans at the NICH café, and witnessed the rollercoaster emotions of a Game 7 date with destiny:...

Jules Vasquez reporting
The Cubs cave at NICH was silent for long spells last night, the muted tensions, the Cubs fans swallowing hard - their dejection palpable late in the evening.

These fans wear their passion on their chests. Every strikeout a celebration, every missed swing a reason for anxious concern and every pivotal play is breathless anticipation often followed by dejection and the agony of lost opportunities, complete with gesticulations.

But Cubs fans endure for these moments of anticipation leading to eruptions of joy explosions exultation, exhilaration and music - go Cubs go.

The full rollercoaster of emotion, the moment of victory - the also time wood contacted ball. Leading to that most pregnant pause, the moment when wood hits ball, and the play is made, victory...

Dennis Peyrefitte, CUBS Fan
"It's been almost thirty odd years since we know the cubs. It's been 108 years since the Cubs win a world series. I think this guy brings a lot of luck to us. Because from the time we start in this World Series I carry his picture with me, Rudy we win. But I think Belize gains a victory for this."

Jules Vasquez, 7News
"So now is Belize a part of this victory in your opinion?"

Dennis Peyrefitte, CUBS Fan
"I think they were, but they were kinda skeptical, because we they saw Cubs losing, they kinda lean back down, but when they see Cubs gets back, they kinda come back in things. But I tell them, like what Lemus believe and I think what we believe, I tell my son believe, I tell my sister believe and we are here. We won. This is it, this is the ultimate. This is the best that could ever happen in baseball."

For these long suffering cubs fans it is a moment of rapture made sweeter by all that suffering...
