ACP Williams Discusses Silent Dispute With Compol
posted (November 9, 2016)

As you saw in that story, ACP Chester Williams is off that one-day administrative leave and back on duty.  He confirmed that he has been reinstated as commander, while the eight-hour shifts remain in place on a trial basis:

Jules Vasquez
"But you're in place as Commander Southside?"

ACP Chester Williams - Commander, Southside
"Yes I am the Commander Southside Belize City."

Jules Vasquez
"Now the police officers I'm in contact with say they remain on the 8 hour shift. Is that right the 8 hour shift experiment continues?"

ACP Chester Williams - Commander, Southside
"Yes it continues and the commissioner has ordered a survey in respect to the matter and when the survey is done then he'll make a final determination from there."

Jules Vasquez
"But is it premature for a survey? In terms of you just reinstated it four days ago, the survey will be done forthwith?"

ACP Chester Williams - Commander, Southside
"Well the commissioner has given his directive and that is within his purview, I am not going to question his authority where that is concerned."

Jules Vasquez
"You and the COMPOL where according to a press release, you were placed on administrative leave; sir you are a proud police officer and I believe you think that you strictly play by the rules. How did you view that when you were placed as an assistant commissioner on administrative leave forthwith?"

ACP Chester Williams - Commander, Southside
"The commissioner is the commissioner, the commissioner has that authority and if he thinks that was something he could have done I support the commissioner in what he did. The matter was discussed in Belmopan yesterday and it has been settled and I think that should be the end of the matter."

The northside and rural police continue to operate on the 12 hour shifts. Those shifts come with a monthly extra payment of one hundred dollars.
