Hon. “Boots” Vs. Gilroy Sr.: The War Over The Voter’s List
posted (November 9, 2016)

We don’t usually get political news at court, but today we found the UDP and PUP candidates for Port Loyola preparing to do battle in open court. Anthony Boots Martinez and Gilroy Usher were there to fight over the voter’s list – which is coming up for its regular review.  Usher wants a number of names stricken from the list, but Martinez says his opponent doesn’t know what he’s talking about.  Here are the many sides of that story:…

Gilroy Usher Jr. - Political Officer, Port Loyola
"We are here at court today in an attempt to clean up the voter's list because you know there is a situation where by especially in Port Loyola a lot of people are voting in Port Loyola that does not reside in Port Loyola."

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez - Defending Voter's List
"He had somebody object to 49 people on the voter's list who are registered at various address over a period of years stemming from 1997 including one home owner who still lives there. A person who 4 of the people that they are objecting to died already, one died 14 years ago and the ground of objection is that they never lived there before."

Jules Vasquez
"Now your opponent is saying in fact the names you all have seem to remove include some who is deceased 14 years ago and you are all are claiming that person no live there."

Gilroy Usher Jr. - Political Officer, Port Loyola
"Well to the best of my knowledge I don't agree with that. You know Boots Martinez he will say anything, all I know is that this address that we're contesting here number 4 Faber's Road, they have 25 people registered at this address. We know for a fact that only 4 people are living at this address from ever since."

Fioana Mitchell - Resident, #4 Faber's Road
"I don't like the fact that they put my name in the newspaper stating that I didn't live at 4 Faber's Road. I have my receipt and my bills to prove that I live there."

Jules Vasquez
"Okay now 4 Faber’s Road it’s a long list of people live there. Are you certain you live there?"

Fioana Mitchell - Resident, #4 Faber's Road
"I'm very certain and the long list only have 5 people that was living with me, my family, that's it."

Jules Vasquez
"Okay so how the list so long?"

Fioana Mitchell - Resident, #4 Faber's Road
"I guess they have more than 1 Faber's Road. I don't know how that could be but I was on the list."

Jules Vasquez
"Now your opponent says that you all lack the essential street intelligence, unno no know the history of the area and you all are objecting to some people who like a home owner he says - one of the people you all are objecting to is a home owner. How do you respond to that?"

Gilroy Usher Jr. - Political Officer, Port Loyola
"Like I said Boots Martinez will say anything. I know for a fact that we have the list here. 25 people registered at one address is not practical so of course he is going to come out and try to distort what it is we're doing."

Elwyn Pollard - 3609 North Creek
"I live on 3609 North Creek my whole life."

Jules Vasquez
"Okay but they are objecting to your name on the list."

Elwyn Pollard - 3609 North Creek
"See I never lived there. Never ever."

Jules Vasquez
"I don't mean to question you like this so you do live there?"

Elwyn Pollard - 3609 North Creek
"All my life."

Jules Vasquez
"Sir you live there as well?"

Clifford Pollard - 3609 North Creek
"Owner of the yard."

Jules Vaquez
"Did you take it as a personal insult?"

Clifford Pollard - 3609 North Creek
"Yes whe you think? "

Elwyn Pollard - 3609 North Creek
"My little nephew died about 14 years, my mom died 2012. We feel disrespected when they come and say a subpoena to come to court. I said for what? I said he sure he have the right address? He asked how big the yard, I said the yard da fi we no matter how big it, we own this."

Hon. Anthony "Boots" Martinez - Defending Voter's List
"He always gets on the radio with his foolishness. What he must do is to report to the Women's Department for his anger management counsel. The court ordered that he go and take anger management from the Women's Department, he hasn’t reported to Women's Department yet."

So, after all that talking, what actually happened in court?  Well, that’s all it ended up being really, just talk, and there was nothing actionable.

Several objections against a list of electors in Port Loyola that were brought before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith, in the role of Revising Officer, were struck today because the evidence was too tenuous. The objections were on the basis that the electors never resided at the address that was given. The objector, Samuel Stanford, testified that during the campaign, he investigated and found that the electors who purportedly resided at 3609 North Creek Road never lived at that address. His witness was Dorian Anthony who testified that he was a neighbour of Clifford Pollard, the head of the household at 3609 North Creek. Anthony said that none of the persons that were listed as having lived at the address did not live there. But he was unable identify the names of those persons. Sanford was also the objector of the electors whose address were listed as 17 Arlington Drive. The objection to electors on the list with their address at 4 Faber’s Road and 63 Central American Boulevard were withdrawn. Anthony "Boots" Martinez, Port Loyola Area Representative, was represented by attorney Herbert Panton while Gilroy Usher was represented by attorney Andrew Marshalleck.
