No Answers In Mystery Body Found
posted (December 15, 2016)
From a death investigation to a murder: the woman whose body was found yesterday afternoon in the Belize River, was killed and dumped there. At a press briefing this afternoon, police had told us that she might have went swimming or either fallen in the river and was attacked by a crocodile. But after police spoke with the investigators this evening, they confirmed that it wasn't a croc attack that killed her; it was 2 chop wounds to the head. It is after her body was thrown in the river that the crocodile may have mauled her and ripped off one of her arms. Now while police have a clearer direction in this case, they are still trying to identify the body. As we told you, the woman is of creole decent and is believed to be in her 30's. There is a tattoo with the letters M.I.C.H and a rose on her right breast, another rose tattoo on her right foot above her ankle and an animal shaped tattoo above her left knee. Police revealed today that the only other details they have is that she may have been homeless and that she was last seen on Sunday morning walking along the Burrell Boom Road. This afternoon police gave an update on the case.

ACP Edward Broaster - OC, Eastern Division Rural
"Yesterday we were reporting the death of Jane Doe which was found in the Belize River, 3 miles downstream from the Burrell Boom Bridge. Last night a post mortem was conducted on the body of Jane Dow, who we have yet to be identified and the result of that post mortem indicate that the deceased Jane Doe died from traumatic cranial injuries suffered. Now the body has a number of injuries all over which would lead us to believe that more than likely the injuries seen and observed on the body after careful examination would be that of a crocodile. The aspersion that we mentioned that the feet were tied, apparently it's a knapsack, those red knapsack with the string straps were wrapped on her feet. We believe that this individual may have been homeless and is usually walking the Phillip Goldson Highway. She was last seen walking on the Burrell Boom road from the Ready Call Center heading towards Burrell Boom direction."

Police say a boatman alerted them to the woman's body in the river yesterday afternoon around 12:00. Now as it relates to knapsack straps that were wrapped around her ankles, police say it may have been her attacker who tied her feet. Police say they have information that someone from prison can identify her. We will keep following this case.
