Will Willoughby Share New Municipal Toys With Mayor?
posted (December 21, 2016)

We also asked the Mayor about all those fancy new pieces of equipment that Councilor Phillip Willoughby has been sporting around town.  They are funded by the flood mitigation project to be used specifically for streets and drains built under that project – but will the Council requisition them for use across the city?  Here’s what the mayor said...

Darell Bradley, Mayor - Belize City
"The assignments of those vehicles are part of the flood mitigation project and the flood mitigation project as you may know is a tremendous initiative of the IDB working in part with the Ministry of Works and the Belize City Council in relation building the capacity of the municipality to be flood resistant. You would have seen significant amount of works going on, clearing out drains including several significant canals; Douglas Jones Canal works going on in Belama Phase 4. Significant street improvements, there were two total renovation of parks and a part of that project that may not be as visible if the capacity enhancement at city hall and that included the gifting of technology so that we're now using GIAS and several pieces of equipment, computers, software that have been given to the city council and as part of that as well is a million US dollars’ worth of heavy equipment including an asphalt truck, including street sweepers, a slug truck, several dump trucks so there's a listing of pieces of equipment that have already landed in Belize it's just because of the Christmas holidays there's been a slight delay in the actual transfer of the equipment but we will get those pieces of equipment quite early in the new year and that equipment will aid in the delivery of maintenance and upgrades for Belize City."
