Police Detain Michelle Moreira’s Husband, After Her Body Found In River
posted (December 29, 2016)
One case that the police are having more success with is their murder investigation into PG native Michelle Moreira. She was found washed up in the Belize River three weeks ago.

Up until last week, police couldn't identify her. Since then, however they've gotten in touch with her family, and they've also been able to put together a general idea of her last days alive.

Today, police told us that they have detained a man she was in a common-law relationship with, and he is being questioned for inconsistencies in his story:

ACP Edward Broaster - OC, Rural Eastern Division
"We have properly identified Michelle Moreira, yes. We are in contact with one of her sons, and we have detained one individual who is believed to be in some sort of a common-law relationship with her. He was questioned."

"We still have him in custody because he told us that the last time he saw Michelle Moreira was the Saturday prior to her death, and we have information that he was with her the day prior to her death."

Reporter
"Sir, so right now, he's a suspect in that murder?"

ACP Edward Broaster
"We're treating him as a suspect, yes."

Andrea Polanco - Channel 5
"Is he cooperating though, providing all the information you're requesting?"

ACP Edward Broaster
"He's not cooperating fully with us. Like I said, he gave us a representation of when last he was with her, and we have statements putting him closer than Saturday, actually the day before her death."

Andrea Polanco - Channel 5
"Sir, the two of them lived exactly where?"

ACP Edward Broaster
"We have identified an abandoned house on the Boom-Hattieville Road."

Andrea Polanco - Channel 5
"Did the police go to investigate that area to see if there was a struggle, or anything point to something that happened?"

ACP Edward Broaster
"Yes, we processed that area and we have information to indicate that she may not have been killed at that location."

Police stressed that at this time, they do not have enough evidence to bring charges against this man who's currently their main suspect.
