Two days after 19 year old Randolph Johnson was killed, his alleged murderer has been charged. Elden Flowers - who is also 19 - appeared in the Magistrate's Court today where he was charged with murder. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser declined to take a plea and Flowers was remanded.
Flowers is linked to one of the feuding gangs in the St. Martin's area. He allegedly shot Johnson on Tuesday afternoon. At the time of the attack, the teenager was fishing in a canal in a secluded area less than a mile from his home. He was along with five other young men who saw the suspect.
Johnson's murder was followed by another killing in the same area four hours later. That was likely an act of retaliation.
Police have since held mediation sessions between the warring gangs.
