SEA Caught Off-season Conchs, Issue Dire Warning
posted (February 1, 2017)

The Independence Magistrate's Court saw some action today too.  The Southern Environmental Association Rangers caught two fishermen, Sanasermo Torres and Earl Lamb separately with undersized conch in the Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve.
Both men were charged for separate cases of possession of unprocessed and undersized conch. Torres was caught and charged for possession of 49 conchs, while Lamb was charged for the possession of 86.

Both men pled guilty to charges, and were fined $20 per conch, plus legal fees.

The Southern Environmental Alliance is using the story to warn, quote, “the population of the queen conch is already in steady decline and may very soon not be available for fisheries should we continue on the path of unsustainable harvesting.â€￾
