Wouldn't it be great if BEL gave everyone a discount on their bill ? Well, if you are one of the 1,110 Belizean senior citizens randomly selected by BEL, then you will be getting that discount. It's part of their Golden Citizen program. Senior citizens are randomly selected countrywide for the discount program based on criteria: you have to be a Belizean 65 years or older, you must have one active account and it must be registered in their your name and residence.
In a press release Ivorine Bulwer, Executive Director of HelpAge Belize, endorses the program saying, " (it) is an indication of the Company's appreciation for those who have contributed to the growth and development of the Belizean Society."
This year's recipients doubled the 2016 figure.
