posted (February 3, 2017)
So, while police are investigating those two murders, there is another one to add to the 2017 tally tonight: 19 year-old Keimar Nicholas has died 11 days after he was shot.

Nicholas - who as shot in the neck in the ongoing rivalry in the Conch Shell Bay area - was left paralyzed and his family and friends were hoping for a miracle. They had planned a fundraising barbeque to raise funds so that he could get treatment in Merida.

But, it wasn't to be. He passed this morning at 10:00 and now his family is left with grief compounded by a 9 thousand-dollar hospital bill, and funeral expenses. This evening, the family's spokesperson told us about finding out that Keimar suddenly died:

Shaheed Haulze - Friend of Deceased
"I got a call from his mother and she told me that Keimar passed away. it was really shocking, I didn't expect that news, because I was visiting all the while and he was doing a little good but then when she called me, Keimar died."

Daniel Ortiz, 7News
"Was there any indications that from the doctors that this could be a possibility?"

Shaheed Haulze - Friend of Deceased
"Yes it could, it was a 50/50 chance like we spoke about it before. So his mother was strong. She expected the best or the worst. She made up her mind."

Daniel Ortiz, 7News
"Share with us how it has affected the family. I know everyone is stunned, but have you had that opportunity to visit with the Lindo's Alley residents, his friends, his family to discuss with them his sudden and untimely passing?"

Shaheed Haulze - Friend of Deceased
"No, but from I spoke with his sister on the phone that she sounded very down. But we have to keep the strength and this will make us stronger."

Daniel Ortiz, 7News
"What happens with the events you all have planned for this weekend for tomorrow and the following weekend given that this turned for the worst happened?"

Shaheed Haulze - Friend of Deceased
"We are still continuing the barbeque sale for tomorrow and next week the 11th. Why? Because we have to pay the bill at KHMH which I believe that is nine thousand dollars his mom told me this morning and now his funeral expense now, we are still hoping that we are getting the donation for his funeral expenses and the bill at KHMH. So, we are still continuing the donation."

Daniel Ortiz, 7News
"As far as we are aware Keimar kept away from the street life that was resident all around him. Would you say that, that kind of gun violence claimed the life of an innocent?"

Shaheed Haulze - Friend of Deceased
"Yes innocent child died. Innocent young man and very respectable and mannerly."

Daniel Ortiz, 7News
"Have you all learnt anything else since the shooting itself to make sense of what happened?"

Shaheed Haulze - Friend of Deceased
"We learned that we should keep inside but we walk with God so whatever happens. I walk with God and I know the neighborhood walk with God."

Again, the family is hoping that members of the public will still support them in their barbecue fund-raising event. Persons wishing to purchase one can call Haulze at 661-2671. After tomorrow's barbeque sale, they have another planned for the following Saturday, February 11.
