Maya, Hidden Worlds Revealed In Dallas
posted (February 9, 2017)
We first told you about the exhibit called "Maya, Hidden Worlds Revealed" in 2014. The show features a majority of Belizean artefacts and is the largest collection of Mayan antiquities to ever be included in a single travelling exhibit. In the past 4 years it has made five stops: Minnesota, Denver, Boston, San Diego, San Antonio, and tonight - at this hour - it is opening in Dallas, Texas. Our News Director, Jules Vasquez, and camera man Codie Norales travelled there yesterday, and they're attending the opening at this hour at the Perot Museum of Natura and Science. They did managed sent us a black a small slice of why this show is creating such a buzz in Dallas:...

Thomas Surgent - Highland Capital Management (sponsor)
"This exhibition takes a slice of the wonder and beauty and the history that exists south of the border and brings it right here to our doorstep here in Dallas."

Ricardo Alarcon - Grupo Paca
"That's the reason why it is important to create these kinds of opportunities to be here with the exhibit to let them know that we are still here."

Eveline Kuchmak - Manager of Temporary Exhibitions
"Fabulous, let me tell you we have never had so much enthusiasm and excitement in the museum. Everybody, volunteers, staff, everyone is so excited, not only for the content of the exhibit, but also the interactive and the artifacts. Wow, Amazing."

Sherilyne Jones - Technical Dir., Museum of Belize
"I think definitely over the past 5 venues there have been over 2 million visitors that have gone through the different venues to see this exhibition."

Dr. David Stuart - Archaeologist & Epigrapher
"This communicates what we do and that's really important. It's not worth digging and studying the ancient Maya if we don't make that public, if we don't communicate it to everybody and that's what an exhibit like this does. It's a really wonderful summary of the latest research and discoveries."

Sherilyne Jones - Technical Dir., Museum of Belize
"I think that there's a large Belizean population here also in the Houston area and the Dallas area. I think that it gives them an opportunity to see it. I think the wealth of information that's included inside the exhibition is worth any Belizean. if you are patriotic and you claim to wave that flag when September, this is an opportunity for you to come be awed, be inspired and then go back and tell your friends. Come and see what Belize has to offer."

Tune in on Monday, when we'll have the full report from Dallas on the enthusiastic reception the show has gotten in Texas. A formal reception for Belizeans in Dallas and other VIP's is ongoing at this hour.
