Guilty Of Lurking At Court With Gun
posted (February 9, 2017)
Last year December, we told you about 20 year-old John Orosco who was caught lurking outside the Belize City Magistrate's Court with a loaded gun. That was a grave security concern for the police and the court security, especially given that the June 2010 slaying of gang Leader Andre Trapp proved that predatory gunmen lurk outside the court house because it is one of the only places that they can catch major street figures. Well tonight, Orozco is at the Belize Central Prison serving a 3 year prison sentence after decided to plead guilty to the charge. Viewers will remember that on December 7, 2016, the cops saw him acting suspiciously, fidgeting with his pants waist. The officers decided to search him, and that's when they found a .38 double barrel revolver, which was loaded with 2 live rounds.

The officers immediately charged him with keeping an unlicensed firearm, and keeping unlicensed ammunition, and when he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty to both offenses. Well today, when the case was brought back before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith, he changed his plea to guilty, accepting that he did have the gun as the police officers alleged.

Because he has no previous convictions for firearm offences, Chief Magistrate Smith sentenced him to 3 years in jail for each count, but both sentences will run concurrently. That means he will only spend 3 years in prison.
