This Is Only a Test On Link Road
posted (February 13, 2017)
In the last few months the Belize City Council has obtained several street paving and maintenance vehicles, and today one of the most important ones was put to the test. Link Road, a small street of Apollo Street in Belama, served as a proving ground for the council's asphalt truck and its operator. City Councilor Phillip Willoughby told us more.

Phillip Willoughby - Belize City Councilor
"So today we will be seeing or witnessing the first time ever the City Council with its brand new asphalt truck and it's in the flood mitigation area and it will complement the flood mitigation infrastructure project. So a lot of work will be done and will be continued to be done as a result of the new assets that has been procured due to the flood mitigation infrastructure project. But it will not be necessarily be assign solely to this particular area. These vehicles, these assets and everything else that comes with the project will be shared across Belize City to serve the residence of Belize City in an effort to improve the quality of life."

"Could you tell us more that, assuming that this test goes as planned, are there other key areas in Belize city that will be looked at that will get immediate treatment of the tar truck?"

Phillip Willoughby - Belize City Councilor
"For sure, we know that the Deputy Mayor Dean Samuels who has the portfolio for works with the city engineers, the city planner, and his work manager Mr. Menjivar who is out here. They know all the streets that need to be repaired, upgraded and asphalted. So it's just waiting for the handing over of these assets, so we can look at how we prioritize these areas that needs to be asphalted and paved."

Willoughby also had a warning for speeding motorists in the area, as well as residents doing construction.

If all goes well in the Link Road test, residents of Belize City can expect to see work being done on other deteriorated streets soon.
