Judge Tells Yolanda And La Inmaculada To Settle
posted (February 14, 2017)
Earlier in the news, we showed you our interview with PUP's Eamon Courtenay in which he took on some tough questions about the UDP's push to get him removed from the Senate. We got a chance to speak to him after the second day in court for the lawsuit against the La Inmaculada Credit Union, which was filed by their former General Manager, Yolanda Gomez.

Viewers will remember that at the end of July of 2015, she was terminated by the Credit Union's Board of Directors, who alleged that an audit showed that Gomez was personally responsible for a half a million dollars in mismanagement and loss to the credit union. Gomez denied all allegations against her, saying that this was an attempt by the Board to damage her reputation, just so that they could remove her.

She is suing the Credit Union's Board and the Registrar of Credit Unions, a post that is held by the Governor of the Central Bank. She has hired Courtenay as her attorney, to argue her case that she was wrongfully terminated from La Inmaculada, and he briefed us this morning on how far the case as progressed. Here's what he told us:

Eamon Courtenay, SC - Attorney for Yolanda Gomez
"The case is about the former general manager, Mrs. Yolanda Gomez, who has brought a claim against the Credit Union for wrongfully dismissing her. The Credit Union defends the case saying that they did not wrongfully dismiss her, and we have also sued the Registrar of Credit Unions, which is the Governor of the Central Bank, because the Credit Union Act specifically sets out a procedure that is to be adopted where a complaint is made against a general manager or employees. Therefore, the case is about that. So far we have completed the evidence of Mrs. Gomez. We're about to start the evidence of the Credit Union, and the Central Bank Governor, but the judge has suggested to us that we try to settle it. So, that's what we're going to do."

Before she was fired at the Credit Union, Gomez had been working there for 24 years. We'll keep following to see how this case is resolved.
