Belmopan Got Major Infrastructure Upgrade
posted (February 17, 2017)
There has certainly been an aesthetic transformation in Belmopan. There are now 3 roundabouts - including the grand and colorful one at the entrance, a number of streets have been paved and the ring road now has a smooth track all around for those who like their early morning or evening run. Well, the work continues in the Capital. A number of other streets have been paved including Roaring Creek, Mussel Creek, Haulover Creek, Garbutt Creek, and a section of Barton Creek Street. A drainage system has also been installed in the Water Reservoir area. There was a short ceremony on Wednesday night in Belmopan to commemorate these recent infrastructural improvements. Here are a few clips.

Khalid Belisle - Belmopan City Mayor
"This is something that has long been in the making and I am happy that we are finally at this evening. This is something that we do or have been doing for the past 5 years now roughly. More than that, ever since I have been involved with Caribbean Builders being the first one and that we have had these inauguration celebrations to commemorate and mark the completion of works in different neighborhoods in Belmopan. Water Reservoir, you have waited for so long, but we are finally here and we hope that you are satisfied with the product so far and I say so far because I know that we still have some work to do particularly in completing Blue Creek and a part of Barton Creek Street and we do intend to do something about the deep drains that we have blessed you with to take away the water but maybe cursed you with in terms of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. So like I said the work isn't quite complete but we have more than a start that we can be proud of here in Belmopan."

Hon. John Saldivar - Area Rep., Belmopan
"In 2008. when the government decided to do the municipal project, I jump at the opportunity to do something for Water Reservoir and Water Reservoir was supposed to be the first among the areas that got paved the streets since this was in 2008, out of the areas that I have mentioned it just so happened that it turned out to be the last, because we had so many difficulties in getting this project executed but I thank God that we have reached this point where it is complete and I thank each and every one of you who have been patient. The intention was to pave all the streets in this area, but by now you know the story. There was an insistence in the part of the engineers and I'm happy that they insisted. They insisted that first and foremost but be the design of the drainage. Even though my idea and our idea was to pave the streets, they insisted that it must be done with proper drainage."

These works fall under the Belize Municipal Development Project.
