Ministry of Health Says Backyard Burials A “No-No”
posted (February 28, 2017)
Yesterday, Bishop OP Martin was buried on the grounds of the school and the church that was so dear to him, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Belmopan. But, while the Catholic and Anglican churches are allowed to do that, the Ministry of health says, don't try it at home!

The Director of Health services today posted the following on his Facebook page, quote: "A gentle reminder in terms of burial on a private property, note that there is a process and so far this year, we haven't given approval for any entity to conduct such burial provided the community has a cemetery. If anyone has proceeded to bury anyone on a private property then the law has been broken and we are seeking legal advice on the matters as we are being alerted of same."

It continues, quote,
"In regards to the burial of the Bishop O.P. Martin, please be advised that the burial of the Catholic Bishop falls in line with Intramural Burials. Under section 44 (1) (b), the church both Roman Catholic and Anglican Bishops have authority by the Public Health Act for the burial of bishops within the wall or the churchyard of their Cathedral."

So, OP's grave is fine, but what about, Cecil Chubby Reneau? The former Chief Education Officer is interred on his farm in Ontario village. Well, the Ministry says it hasn't given approval for any burials on private property this year, and if that happened, quote, "the law has been broken." We spoke to Reneau's family and they said they hadn't heard anything from the Ministry.
