posted (March 31, 2017)
Tomorrow Special Olympics Belize will be holding its annual "fun run". The event is being held to raise awareness for the Special Olympics as well as to promote exercise and a healthy life style. Each district will be having it's own run, and everyone is invited to participate. The Special Olympics' Belize District's Administrative Lead, Carol Brennon, told us more...

Karel Brannon - Belize District Administrative Lead, Special Olympics Belize
"So tomorrow we're having our annual fun run. We have this every year, the first Saturday in April. Fun run is just to promote awareness of special olympics Belize, what we are, so the community can come out and be a part of Special Olympics. We try to promote our community of inclusion and acceptance of our youths or people with intellectual disabilities, so we're just asking everybody to come out and support us. Our fun run starts at 6am it's happening across the country. So in every district there is a fun run happening tomorrow. If you're coming out to support we're asking that you come a little early, cause we do have a registration process, you don't have to pay anything to be part of the run, but we do want to keep count of how many people come out, and if you're interested in being a volunteer you can also indicate that on the registration form as well."

"In Belize City we're having two different routes. So we're having a Junior route that's 1 ½ miles. Both are starting from Stella Maris School. So the junior route goes from our school, continuing on to PMD turning onto St. Thomas, Freetown Road and then back to Stella Maris. The senior route is Stella Maris School continuing on to PMD onto New Town Barracks, Barrack Road Freetown and then back to PMD, Stella Maris School. SO anyone that you want to do you can do. You don't have to run you can walk, we'll have water, we'll have traffic with us, we'll have first aid out there too, so whatever it is, come out, support."

Registration for the fun run is free. Specially designed t-shirts will also be available for purchase.
