Twenty-three year old Alberto Barraza appeared in the Magistrate's Court today. Barraza was charged with aggravated assault with a knife. He admitted to stabbing 22 year old Shakeem Dennison, and pled guilty, but explained to Magistrate Carlon Mendoza that the reason he did it was because Dennison allegedly slapped him in the face with the butt of a firearm. According to Barraza, Dennison was trying to get him to join his gang, and when he refused Dennison hit him.
After hearing Barraza's explanation, Mendoza entered an equivocal plea of not guilty. He was released on $1000 bail. His case was adjourned until June 2.
