IDB, The Grand Plan For Statistical Convergence
posted (April 4, 2017)
On the news, we often feature statistics from the Statistical Institute of Belize. Their research into the quarterly and annual outputs of the different industries, as well as the cost of living in those different time periods, are detailed and involved. But, the SIB and the Inter-American Development Bank believe that there is lots of room for improvement.

That's why SIB, IDB, and the Ministry of Economic Development, Petroleum, Investment, Trade and Commerce are exploring the implementation of a new project called the National Statistical System. It goes hand in hand with the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for Growth and Sustainable Development Strategy. Yes, that's all a mouthful, but the objective is to create a network for all the statistical data that the Government Ministries and the industries gather, so that there is one central database.

It's in its very early stages, and today experts identified by the IDB hosted a workshop to introduce the idea to the public sector, and 7News dropped by to see how it would work. We spoke to the Director General of SIB, and one of the lead representatives of the IDB:

The workshop continues tomorrow, and SIB's Director General told us that there will be follow-up workshops in the months to come. He envisions that this initiative will require months or years to properly implement.
