Last night on 7News we showed you those contraband cops loading up stuff from Botes, Mexico. They were in Santa Cruz village on the Belize side of the border in the Orange Walk District. That's across the river from Botes, and the cops were there in plain sight using a police pickup to get their contraband products, mostly beer it seems. When we asked the Commissioner about it yesterday he said that he had heard about the video, but hadn't seen it. Well we sent it to him yesterday - just as he asked us to, but there's been no swift action. The police press office would only say that the Commissioner has directed the professional standards branch to investigate the matter. Well, according to our information they already had the video, from weeks ago - and nothing was being done about it. We'll keep following the story, but already there are credible reports which say that other police pickups - even the fancy news ones - are seen in that same area doing the same thing: stocking up on contraband.
