"We had in our plans the expansion of the hospital itself with a 50 bed wing through the European Union, that is something that seems now we have, might not happen, let me put it that way not too happy with it but that is the way it goes in terms of when external agencies, it is their decision."

"They weren't too keen on the kind of capital investment that goes into it so they decided to take their money and put it into other areas, it's their money so they can decide what to do with it but it is a need for us and we will be looking now to see how we expand. We have been discussing with the US Embassy because they also have some health projects with the possibility of creating a polyclinic for Belmopan which would alleviate the problem that we have in terms of congestion because you know the Western regional Hospital does both outpatient and in-patient services and it is really congested while people come to basically do the outpatient services so we want to separate that. We started some discussions with the US Embassy to see if they can assist us in building that and it looks promising."

"And I know there were plans to also rebuild the entire hospital but I'm sure that is a work in progress."

"Yeah there is a need to build, the ideal situation is to build a new hospital but we can't afford it and so we have to look at it strategically, what can we afford, there are some new parts of the hospital we can salvage and there are some other parts we will have to look at and we see what we can do."
