Chorus of Condemnation For Faber Continues
posted (April 7, 2017)
The National Trade Union Congress of Belize has joined the chorus of condemnation for Education Minister, Patrick Faber. The minister has decided to pay an honorarium to those teachers who didn't strike, and who did show up for the make up days as instructed.

Well, the NTUCB issued an angry release today saying that is is issuing, quote, "a very somber, serious and emphatic warning to the Government of Belize as it relates to...a very poorly conceived decision to pay an "honorarium" to a select few.."

It adds, quote, "the NTUCB...cannot reconcile how on one hand the Government of Belize, has called for "austerity" measures from the wider community, while on the other, it has declared its resolute decision to spend this one million dollars...this Congress (finds it) utterly deplorable...to (compensate) a worker for not standing in solidarity with his/her Union...a well-orchestrated form of "union busting".

The NTUCB says this "cannot be countenanced" and it calls on the Government to reconsider this decision.
