Belmopan Police were quick to strike back at criminals this weekend after an armed robbery. It happened on Friday afternoon at "Circle R" Rice at mile 44 on the Western highway. "We received information of a robbery at Circle R products, located just outside of Belmopan and near to Cotton Tree Village. Our officers immediately proceeded to the area where the manager Mr. Vargas reported to us that he and another staff member was at the work site when they were approached by 3 men who were in a black car approached the establishment and demanded money."
"During the process Mr. Vargas was hit to the head with one of the guns. So far we have 2 persons in custody. They are Abraham Vellos of a Police Street address in Belize City, he is 21 years old and Florentino Ruiz, 28 years old of a Raccoon Street Belize City address."
"During the robbery $800 in cash were stolen, along with a black Samsung smart phone. These 2 men have been charged with robbery. Also we've retrieve a firearm which we believe was use in the commission of this crime. We are still looking for a third suspect whom will be charged whenever we locate him."

Today in Belmopan Magistrate Court, 28 year old Florentino Ruiz and 21 year old Abraham Vellos were each charged with Robbery and wounding. They were each sentenced to 5 years 6 months in prison - and could face more charges since police have recovered the weapon. All the officers involved in moving so fast to make arrests and recover the weapon will be rewarded at a ceremony this Wednesday.
