ACP Williams Welcomes Vidal, Gangs Reject Him
posted (April 12, 2017)

And, ACP Williams hopes to do all that before he leaves in July.  That’s the date of transfer - and as you heard him say, he’s ready to move on at the commissioner’s will - even if the gang members think otherwise.  We got a little deeper into that conversation with him - when the press asked if he’s being pushed aside because he has political ambitions:…

ACP Chester Williams, Commander - Eastern Division South
"I am a public police officer, I am subject to be transferred and the commissioner is the commissioner, he decides where he puts his senior officers and if he thinks that I am best suited to serve in Belmopan in the capacity that I am going, then I go with the commissioner's decision that is time for me to move on and do something different."

Jules Vasquez
"But Mr. Vidal has gone on record repudiate community policing. In 2011 he told me that it didn't work, it hasn't worked."

ACP Chester Williams
"At one point in time I too repudiated community policing so it's just the way how it is."

Reporter
"Sir but do you believe that with Mr. Vidal now coming here, all your efforts in the community policing will be wiped out?"

ACP Chester Williams
"I don't think so; I don't know why people have this idea. Vidal is an excellent officer, he's exceptional, I am sure that he will assess the situation on the ground and see what he can do to enhance and whatever I can do to assist Mr. Vidal to ensure that peace prevails in our city, I will assist him."

Reporter
"Word is getting around that you have political ambitions, that the commissioner and those up top got wind of that and they have imposed this transfer to nix that."

ACP Chester Williams
"Whenever the time comes if it comes that I have any political ambition, I will know what to do, I will leave the department and go and do that. I am a police officer for now until I don't know when - until I decide to leave and until then I serve the police department and the commissioner of police. So about any political ambition I don't know where that is coming from, I have not decided whether or not I will be doing that. I enjoy my work as a police officer and I want to continue that."
