A Boating Bonanza!
posted (April 13, 2017)
Today, throngs of Belizean beach lovers and water buffs crowded into the water taxi terminals to head out to the cayes. For the water taxi services, it's a bonanza: boatfuls of passengers queuing up for every available boat.

We spoke to a representative of San Pedro-Belize Express, about how they're handling the Easter rush...

Shamika Penill
"We didn't expect for today to pick up so quickly, but per run we are sending at least 3-4 boats more than we usually do, so it's a large crowd."

Alex Courtenay, 7News
"So I guess on Thursday's before Easter, is this crowd normal, is this more than you would expect?"

Shamika Penill
"This year has been much better. The other years its usually one or two boats, but this year we are seeing a huge crowd coming in, so we are doing much better today."

Alex Courtenay, 7News
"What do you guys expect for the rest of the week, especially tomorrow when most people will have holiday?"

Shamika Penill
"For Friday, definitely we are expecting a massive crowd. But have our vessels, we have more runs. Between every run, we added more runs to accommodate the crowd. We have great deals, for Caye Caulker its $27 round trip and $47 round trip to San Pedro, so bring out your family. The rate is good, everyone can travel."

Most water taxi services will be adding more trips to their schedule and offering discounted rates.
