Street Woman Murdered For Sex
posted (April 18, 2017)
But while there were no gang related murders, there was still a murder in the city this weekend. The victim is 35 year old Indira "Princess" Thompson - a person well known to most Southside residents. And those who traffic Albert and Orange streets would have surely seen her around a couple times, either begging for money or just hanging out on the street side. Well, early Holy Friday morning, Princess was beaten and stabbed to death at a house on Southern Foreshore. Princess was at the house alone when a man came asking for sex. She refused to sleep with him and he attacked her. I spoke to her family about her tragic story.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Indira "Princess" Thompson had a troubled past. She never knew her mother and was on her own from her early teens, roaming around and begging on city streets.

Her older brother had been doing his best to provide for her and her family.

"I took her in, I took her, her man and her child, I gave her my mattress to sleep on, my brand new mattress and I sleep on board, the next day I wake up I feel like someone hit me with board. I told her stay in this yard because people hurt you out there. You do not have a mother, you do not have a father, you don't have a big brother I am the only big brother for the family."

But there was only so much he could do to keep Indira off the streets and away from danger.

On Good Friday morning, she was beaten and stabbed to death inside this house behind the Bellevue Building on Southern Foreshore.

Kesha Crawford, Friend
"Before I reach home an officer stopped me on Albert Street and told me that they heard that Princess had died, they had cut her up, stab her and I said I don't know, I am going home right now and find out so when I came, my friend told me that they killed Princess and I was in shock because that is a good girl, she used to always have my back so right now I am sad, I am very sad."

"It happened here? What exactly happened?"

Kesha Crawford, Friend
"You know what I think happened? I think he wanted to sex her and she refused and then he killed her."

And Indira's boyfriend was almost killed as well, when he bumped into the attacker as he was coming back home.

Carl Morter, Boyfriend
"He come here to kill me too, he missed my throat."

Courtney Weatherburne
"You were trying to help her or something?"

Carl Morter, Boyfriend
"I was coming back home, I went to go buy."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So the same time you were coming in, the guy was coming out with the knife and cut you?"

Carl Morter, Boyfriend
"Kill her, kill her."

It was a vicious and senseless attack on a helpless woman, leaving behind a blooded mattress at her favorite hangout spot and the heavy bitterness of her loss that her big brothers have to live with.

Elvis Thompson, Brother
"It really hurts me because I always take care of my sister you understand, that totally wrong you understand."

Courtney Weatherburne
"You were very close with her, did you guys grow up very close?"

Elvis Thompson, Brother
"Of course, I was very close to her, we hang out together, you understand."

Courtney Weatherburne
"And you did your best as well to help her?"

Elvis Thompson, Brother
"Anyone who played with her I revenge, you understand, I fight for her, Belizean people are chancey."

Police haven't detained anyone as yet but say that their suspect is a male of hispanic descent.
