Our next story reads more like a movie script than a news story: 3 guys go and buy a car; the car salesman and friends then hold them at gunpoint, tie them up, stuff them into their own car, and tell them that they are going to be killed. One of the would be victims, then slips a razor blade out of his wallet, cuts his hands free, pulls off his mask, snatches his abductor's gun - and then pulls the trigger….while his buddies open the trunk from inside and jump out at a speedbump.
But it's not a movie; all this happened in real life according to Eder Hall and two of his friends who were held up, car jacked and abducted.
Hall - who is from Corozal - explains that it all started when he and his two friends, Emil Rosado and Elizar Hall went to buy a vehicle in Ranchito on Wednesday afternoon.
He took thirteen thousand dollars in cash to buy the vehicle, but before they could even start talking business, the salesman's two friends turned up with guns. Here's his narration:...
Eder Hall - Victim of Aggravated Assault
"He didn't even give us a chance to look inside the vehicle when 3 other guys came out from nearby bushes. Three of them came out with weapons and 2 of them had their shirts on their faces and they were demanding that we get on the ground. I had a small black pouch, that was where I had the cash that I was going to use to buy the vehicle. When they saw that, I think one of them, I don't pretty much recall exactly what happened but one of them took the pouch from me and threw on the ground and they removed my gold chain from my neck. One of the other guys stripped my workers chains also from his neck. My ring and everything they took, but they didn't search our pockets or anything so, I still ended up with my wallet and they ended up with their phones in their pockets also. So, what they did was, when the guy said "don't look up to the boss" I think they were referring to Chile. So, whenever I turned and look to the side I said that they already have both of them on the ground and they are tying up, tying their hands to their back and that was when I said, "Oh man this is serious." They demanded that 3 of us got in the trunk but luckily only 2 of them fit inside the trunk. So, they were placed inside the trunk and then I was placed on the passenger's seat behind the driver."
"Then they started to drive up and they placed a bag on my face. I had a Gillette in my wallet, I always have a Gillette in my wallet because sometimes I go out and I like to mark up my face and so. So, I had my wallet and when they were driving, this happened very quickly, whilst we were driving they say will they will take us to Libertad and kill us and throw us in the river. I didn't say anything at that point, I just do whatever they said, I obeyed and complied with whatever they said."
"So, that moment I was trying to remove, because I my hands were tied backwards so my hand could easily take out my wallet. So, that was what I did, I took out my wallet and I took out the Gillette that was in my wallet. I also cut off the strings that they tied me in. They tied me with a cable and shoe lace or something like that so it was easy to cut off. So, before arriving in Calcutta by public works there, the trunk open. They were also trying to escape and they had loosen themselves and since it was is vehicle, he knew that trunk can be opened from inside. So, that's what they did. They manage to open the trunk while they were driving on the highway so that's when one of the driver said the trunk is open and that's when I said "I'm not going to stay here, if I'm going to die I'm going to die trying." I'm not going to stay like a coward just let them kill me."
"So, I already had the Gillette in my hand, my hands are loose, so I used one hand to remove the bag that they have on my head and I tried to fight with the guy and take away the gun. I managed to take away the gun, when I took away the gun, I told him, what are you going to do now? I pulled the trigger but it didn't go off. So, when that happened the other guy was coming inside also because he didn't know I had the gun. When the other guy came to close the trunk, he came to my side but when he saw me pointing the gun at him, when I pointed the gun he started to run and when I pulled the trigger it didn't go off. So, actually they were also lucky that the gun didn't work, because I had decided to kill both of them right there on the spot. It was my life or it was theirs."
Hall's friends jumped out of the trunk at the next speed bump and suffered mild abrasions.
Police say that they have detained three persons and recovered a bag containing a gold chain and ring as well as $6,500.00 dollars in cash. The men are held pending charges which will be brought after an ID parade is conducted.
