Ya’axché Uses Indigenous Materials For Fire Relief
posted (May 5, 2017)
Too often in the news, we report on families burnt out of their home - who often need assistance to rebuild their lives. That usually means plywood or lumber. But in rural Toledo, it can mean cohune leaves, sticks and other building materials from nature. That's what the Ya'axché Conservation Trust did for the Tzalam family in Golden Stream Village. The family of five got burnt out on Monday May 1st when their cohune-thatched kitchen caught on fire, and burnt down the entire home, plus an adjoining bungalow.

Ya'axché came to their rescue with indigenous materials from the Golden Stream Corridor Preserve. Here's more:

The fifteen thousand acre Golden Stream Corridor Preserve was bought by Ya'axché in 1998.
