Today police are on the hunt for 48-year-old Harrison Powell. We told you about Powell yesterday, after he was sentenced to 5 years in prison for armed robbery. Powell snatched Nazli D'Silva's backpack, but was caught by officers in a police mobile patrol after they heard D'Silva scream for help. When he appeared in court yesterday, Powell pled guilty to the charges, but asked Magistrate Carlon Mendoza for leniency, claiming that the reason he committed the crime was because he was possessed by the Devil - and had been obeah'd from he was a child. Mendoza explained to Powell that he was unable to hand him a lenient sentence because Powell has a previous conviction for a dishonest crime.
After the sentencing Powell was transported to the Belize Central Prison, but prison officials refused to take him. Powell apparently had a swollen knee, and would not be allowed entry until officials were provided with a medico-legal form stating the nature of his injury and if he had received treatment.
Police then proceeded to take Powell to the Cleopatra White Health Clinic. While he was receiving treatment, Powell somehow managed to escape from custody, and is still on the loose.
