On Wednesday, Norman Rodriguez became the first sitting Magistrate to be charged and arraigned for the offense of rape. But would he also be forced off the bench?
Well, the Judicial and Legal Services Commission today announced that he is on interdiction with half-pay.
The Commission's secretary sent out a notice today, stating that having been charged with this serious offense, he will have to sit out his duties as a Magistrate in Belize City and Stann Creek while he is on interdiction. His interdiction took effect on Wednesday, and will remain in effect until the Judicial and Legal Services Commission decides otherwise.
As we have reported, his ex has accused him of having sex with her against her will. That allegedly happened at the Magistrate's quarters in Dangriga Town. He has insisted to us that this he is innocent and that this is a malicious complaint that the complainant made to destroy his reputation.
