Will Marco Meet and Greet?
posted (May 24, 2017)

The police community meet and greet sessions were popularized under Williams' command here in the city, but he will only hold that position for another month or so. Williams is being transferred to Belmopan to head up the Professional Standards Branch as part of large scale shake up in the police command. When we spoke to him today, we asked Williams about his transition and if we will continue to see the meet and greet sessions after he is gone...

ACP Chester Williams - Commander, Southside Police
"Well each commander comes with their own style and this is my style of policing. I believe in policing with consultation with the public. At the end of the day the public do know what they go through on a daily basis more than the police. I am a firm believer that you cannot deal with a situation if you don’t know what is the root cause of the problem. Just like when you go to a doctor the doctor has to diagnose you first before he treats you. The same thing applies to policing. We must know what the community is going through in order for us to be able to address the issues and concerns from a security standpoint and that is what I believe in so this is my style and I don’t know if the next commander will have the same style as I do, but I would hope that he would do the same. And in terms of the transition, I must say that I am looking forward to moving on from Belize City and to take up my new post, whatever challenges that brings I am prepared to face it, and move on with my career."

Williams is being replaced by former GSU Commander Marco Vidal, who has gone on record stating that he is not an advocate of community policing.
