In March 2012 Florencio Pop was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering Bladden Village resident, Felix Cucul Ich. Pop allegedly killed Ich by chopping him once to the back of the neck.
Today Pop returned to court seeking a lesser sentence. He appeared before Justice Dennis Hanomansingh, who handed him the sentence five years ago. Pop, under the advice of his attorney, Oscar Selgado, changed his plea from not guilty of murder, to guilty of manslaughter. Because of the change in plea, Hanomansingh deducted 5 years from Pop's sentence. He deducted 2 more years because Pop handed himself into police and cooperated with police throughout the investigation.
Pop's sentence is now only 8 years in prison, effective March 2012, which means he should be out by 2020.
