Paddlers to Puerto Rico
posted (May 30, 2017)
Today the Belize Canoe Association sent a delegation of 6 rowers to Puerto Rico to compete in the Puerto Rico Olympic Cup, which is a kayak racing event. The athletes will participate in kayak sprint races of distances ranging from 200 meters to 1000 meters. And while the Puerto Rico Olympic Cup is not the actual Olympics, the team's leader, Rudolph Gentle told us that the event is an important stepping stone to competing in the world's most famous sporting event...

Gentle and his team aren't the only Belizean rowers representing the country on the international stage. Earlier this month Hener Cruz and Kyle Mynar won their first race at the Texas River Marathon. They went on to place 11th in the Clinton Classic in New York, which is the first leg of the canoeing's Triple Crown. Next month Cruz and Mynar will compete in the Texas Water Safari, a 260 mile nonstop race, known by many as one of the toughest races in the world.
