Cops Gone Wild On Mayflower?
posted (June 2, 2017)
Right now, Belize City Residents of the Mayflower area are very upset with police for their reckless use of deadly firearms over the weekend.

On the other hand, the cops say they were defending themselves after a resident of the area, Kendis Flowers opened fire on them. Today, Flowers, was charged with 2 counts of attempted murder when he appeared today before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith. Flowers was remanded into custody.

But there are two very different sides to this story. Here's what we have learned. Some time around 4 a.m. last Sunday morning, Kendis FLOWERS and his cousin were in front of their house on Mayflower Street, after a night out. Residents tell us that they got into a family dispute, which showed no signs of getting out of control. Cops were in the area, and one of the officers saw the two cousins carrying on, and he allegedly went over them. Residents say that before he could act in any peacekeeping manner, he came up behind FLOWERS and punched him in the face.

FLOWERS allegedly confronted the officer for the sucker punch, and they engaged some hard talk. Just as the officer was walking away, a shot went into the air from FLOWERS's yard. The officer then pulled out his weapon, called for back-up, and officers from both Eastern Divisions arrived on the scene. They reportedly started firing shots recklessly into the neighborhood, and bullets went flying into the homes of unsuspecting residents - many of whom were sleeping.

Today, one homeowner recounted the that worrisome experience to 7News. He said he was almost injured by a stray bullet, which entered his front door, and exited the back wall:

Kendis FLOWERS told us today that he wasn't the person who fired the warning shot in the air which triggered the police. He said that it was someone else in his yard who did it, and he was still nursing the injury to his face from the officer who punched him. Of course, as we told you, police have investigated and charged him not only for the shooting - but have concluded that he was shooting at them.
