Burglar Convicted

Belize City resident Byron Tillett also appeared in court today. Tillett is accused of burglarizing the home of Phillip Wade in Ladyville. According to reports, Wade and his son left their house at around 9:30 one morning and returned just after 2 that afternoon. Wade told police that he went to the restroom as soon as they got home, and while there he heard his his son yell at somebody to get out of the house. By the time Wade came back out of the restroom, his son had already apprehended Tillett.

Tillett initially told the court that he broke into the house because he needed a place to stay, but when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith today, he pled guilty to the charge of burglary. Smith sentenced Tillett to 7 years in prison.
