Belize and US Collaborate on Education
posted (June 6, 2017)
The US may be sending all kinds of signals with the Edmond Castro visa revocation and the John Saldivar humiliation, but on the surface, harmonious Belize - US relations continue. And that's why 4 Peace Corp Volunteers will be helping the Ministry of Education with their literacy initiative. These volunteers or Literacy Intervention Specialists as they are called, will spend the next 6 months focusing on programs that will promote and enhance the effectiveness of the nationwide literacy initiative in Belize.

Chief Education Officer, Dr. Carol Babb highlighted in the release that "This collaboration represents the culmination of more than two years of planning and preparation". All 4 volunteers were sworn in in Belmopan on June 2nd. As part of the swearing in an MOU was signed between the Ministry of Education and Peace Corps Belize. According to a release, this expanded collaboration allows Peace Corps to recruit and place highly qualified literacy specialists to meet specific technical requests and needs of the Ministry."
