Remember the Flowers Bank Fourteen

Last night we told you about Burrell Boom day - which celebrated the history of that river valley village. Well, down the road a bit, in Flowers Bank, they were also celebrating. But it wasn't just the village, they were celebrating the men history recorded as the "Flowers Bank Negroes" - 14 free black men who - legend has it - cast the deciding votes in the June first, 1797 public meeting to decide whether to run or to defend the colony.

In this 9th annual Flowers Bank Festival - colonial historian Fred Hunter underscored the importance of that decision:…

The ceremonial observance was followed by drumming, dancing, and other festivities.
