posted (June 14, 2017)

Another successful police initiative that is helping Southside kids escape the gang life is the mentoring program. It will finish up in about 3 weeks and the police National Youth Coordinator Douglas Hyde told us more .

Douglas Hyde - National Youth Coordinator, Police
"Our youth mentorship programme is actually in 5 months and one week exact and we have 3 more weeks of it to go, It finishes on June 30th so next couple weeks we will finish. The kids are very optimistic, we've some drastic change, dramatic change in some of their lives, this weekend we're going to take them to the national coast guard compound to meet the coast guards there as part of career there for them and every week we try to take then or invite someone to talk to them along with the mentors that work with them. I say big respect to Jim Scott, Ms. Dianne Finnegan, Shakira Shasha, Ms. Carol Westby; these are some of the mentors that work with them every week. The police officers through community policing that work with them and these are kids from the Southside, all the communities and areas that shows up every week religiously 80 to 100 kids."

The mentoring session ends on June 30th.
