Teenaged Girl Murdered In Santa Familia
posted (June 19, 2017)
A couple was viciously attacked on Friday night in Santa Familia - the boyfriend, 22 year old Eliseo Bacab survived but his 16 year old girlfriend, Amy Guerra didn't. Bacab was stabbed several times in the neck while Guerra's throat was slashed. It's a disturbing case coming out of a quiet community like Santa Familia. Courtney Weatherburne has more details. Just to note, in the story it says the attack happened on Saturday night but that is not the case, it happened on Friday night and Guerra's body was found on Saturday at 2:00 in the afternoon. Here is that story.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Eliseo Bacab and Amy Guerra had been together for 1 year. But recently they were going through a rough patch in their relationship.

Eliseo Bacab, Boyfriend
"We were separate about 1 month and a half to 2 months."

On Saturday night Guerra called Bacab so they could talk about getting back together.

They met at this cemetery around 9:00. But their reunion session was interrupted by 3 men who Bacab knew very well.

Eliseo Bacab, Boyfriend
"They were drinking and I told Amy let's go."

And they left and went over to the football field close by to finish their conversation. They walked over to the riverside but not too long after, the 3 men showed up again but this time one of them had a chilling message.

Eliseo Bacab, Boyfriend
"The only things that Steven said, he said hey guys the thing that I will do right now, I don't want nobody to tell anything then me and Amy was sitting but when I hear that I try to stand and then the boy grabbed by my neck with his hand and he have a knife and he stabbed me like 6 times right here."

Bacab struggled with his attacker as he was trying to cut Bacab's throat. But after a while Bacab collapsed. The attackers then, thinking he was dead, threw him in the river.

That's when they grabbed Guerra, slashed her throat, then finished her off by drowning her in the river. By some twist of faith or divine intervention Bacab survived.

Eliseo Bacab, Boyfriend
"When I woke up I was in the river, I tried to get oxygen and I saw I was in the river and I tried to swim and then I got up and then I tried to stand and I fell because I dropped a lot of blood."

Bacab finally dragged himself to his house and his family rushed him to the hospital. But Guerra didn't make it. Her body was found in the river on Sunday afternoon around 2:00.

Cathy Guerra, Mother
"They told me one of the guy confessed that he killed my daughter and threw her in the river. So all my brothers they went and search and they found her in the middle of the river."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Did you see the body? Did you went out there and saw the body?"

Cathy Guerra, Mother
"Yes I saw the body, have stab here on both sides of the neck. I saw foam coming out of her nose."

It is a brutal end for young girl and a terrifying attack for Bacab, one that he never saw coming especially from these men who he knew and says didn't have any problems with.

Eliseo Bacab, Boyfriend
"I know them, I don't know why they tried to kill me and Amy. I don't know why they do me that."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Did they have anything against you? Did you had any issues with them in the past at all?"

Eliseo Bacab, Boyfriend
"I don't have any anything with those guys. I know them from a long time. I don't know why."

Courtney Weatherburne
"That's why when you saw them you weren't afraid or anything like that, because you wouldn't believe that they would attack you like this."

Eliseo Bacab, Boyfriend
"I believed that."

Cathy Guerra, Mother
"I just want justice, I want them to pay for what they did to my daughter - the way how they killed my daughter, I want the 3 of them pay for that. I know they can't bring my daughter back, but if they take them out - there are many girls over here - the same thing could happen."

And now that this tragedy has shattered Guerra's family, they all have to hold on the memories of the life she had and the promising future she would have had ahead of her:

Cathy Guerra, Mother
"On Friday morning we went to Spanish Lookout at the Western Diaries, she was going to go and find a job there and she asked the supervisor and he ask her a lot of questions if she knows how to cook, because she wanted to study and go to CET and study to be a chef. She was going to get a two-day job there and she ask her aunt for 2 days of job for washing - just to put up her money to go. She was a happy girl. She likes to sing and dance and play. She did have any reason for her to die like that - the way she was killed for nothing."
