Man Found Dead On Roadside In Unitedville
posted (June 19, 2017)
A man was found dead early on Saturday morning in Unitedville Village, in the Cayo District. Police don't know what killed 52 year old Jorge Lemus - and will only say that it is classified as a body found. That's because he was found face down in a drain off the highway, with bruises observed on left eye and left side of face swollen. He could have been knocked down, beaten, or maybe just fell, so police are waiting on a post mortem. But, his family isn't - today his sister told me she believes he was robbed:...

Voice of: Sister
"When they told us that he is dead, it was shocking, but he was working with my oldest brother. He was doing construction there and he had got paid the Friday night. So what we believe is that they wanted to rob him or they robbed him and that's what happen."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So no money was found on him?"

Voice of: Sister
"No, no money. When the police found him, they searched his pocket and just fifty cents was in his pocket and the Friday he has a good amount. I am not sure how much, but he had gotten paid and he had money."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So you all believe someone hit him or killed him and then robbed him?"

Voice of: Sister
"Yeah, that what we believe."

ASP Daniel Itche, San Ignacio Police
"He was seen with a bruise to the left eye. He was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival."

Reporter
"Was foul play suspected in this particular incident?"

ASP Daniel Itche, San Ignacio Police
"We are investigating the matter. We are recording statements from persons who saw him. We have learnt he visited a liquor establishment sometime after midnight night and that was the last sighting of him."

Voice of: Sister
"He had no enemies, like to say this one wanted to kill him, because he did such a thing right. No he didn't have any enemies like that."

Courtney Weatherburne
"You said he drank a lot? Maybe that could be one other element."

Voice of: Sister
"I would say he use to take his drinks, but not drink a lot as other people would say, no."

Police agreed that he was found with no money - but say they must wait on the post mortem result to determine whether foul play was involved.
