The fisheries industry is one of the country's most profitably and important money makers. Thousands of Belizeans make their living fishing, scaling, filleting and selling their catch. These fisherfolk must also work along with conservation groups to ensure that they are using sustainable fishing practices.
Fisherfolk's Month is celebrated to as a way raise awareness for the work members of the fisheries industry do in conserving our natural resources. Today the Wildlife Conservation Society launched a photo exhibit to show off the unique relationship between fishers and the marine life that they make their living from. Here's what the WCS's Assistant Country Director had to say about the display...
