36 year old Jermaine Franklin was buying a few DVDs on King Street when he was gunned down. Just after Franklin walked into the DVD store, the assailant ran in after him and fired several shots at his back. Franklin collapsed on the street, and the gunman fled. When the police responded it was to pick up the body and process the scene - which took over an hour.

"Police responded to shots fired on King Street, as a result they visited the location at 16 King Street which is in front of Teddy's DVD Music and Rental, where they observed a male person lying motionless on the pavement. The person was identified as Jermaine Franklin of a Faber's Road address. He was seen with several gunshot wounds to the body. He was taken to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival."

Police took advantage of the many security cameras in that area to identify a suspect, and managed to track him down and bring him in for questioning...

"Well the investigators have combed the area, they have check several footages within the area that assisted the police in this investigation so far."

"We have a person in custody at this time that is being questioned. We suspect that he is the right person that was involve in the shooting and he is presently in custody at this time."

Franklin was not known to police as a criminal, so they have ruled out possibility of the shooting being connected to gang activity. His family is just as confused, and are trying to figure out why someone would want to harm him.

"We have interviewed the suspect a while ago and the motive - it is something personal. We do not believe it is gang related at this time."

"He was very close with his family yes and he wasn't that type of person to be giving trouble to say that someone would want to hurt him in that manner."

And now, after what they're calling another senseless murder, Franklin's family and close friends are left to remember him as a loving and dedicated brother.

"It is another senseless murder and it's kind of hard because it hit home. Often times you see it on the television and you hear it on the news, but you don't know how it impacts you until it reaches your doorstep and it has reached mine and it's really rough, it's really rough."

"He's not that type of person. he is somebody that is short, meaning that he has a little temper, but not that much to say that someone would want to hurt him in that way or in that manner and despite the little issues he had he was a loving person and that is what I'll remember most about him. He would always use to tell us 'oh you get on my nerves, but I do still love you sis.'"

As you heard in the story, police have ruled out gang activity as a motive, but it should be noted that Franklin is the younger brother of notorious street figures Clay and Stackles Monsanto - who were active well over a decade ago.
