PM Restoreth Pakeman
posted (June 22, 2017)
Barrow also gave us an update about the status of Government Press Office Director, Dorian Pakeman, who has been on suspension since September 2016 for knocking down and killing Dean Dawson. Pakeman was driving a government issued Isuzu D-Max at the time. Pakeman was charged for causing death by careless conduct, but one month ago, the case fell apart when the judge found there wasn't enough evidence to go to trial.

And, now Pakeman is back in his senior post at the Press Office, but not after a soft warning from the Prime Minister...

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Since all the, I don't know if the charges were dropped or they were thrown out, but since he's been freed of all the charges he's gotten his job back."

Reporter
"Has he been given any stricter guidelines because of that incident?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
"Well I did have a chat with Mr. Pakeman and just in a general way made the point that he's been cleared of all charges and he's entitled to his job back. That's our system and that's fair play and that's giving him justice, but that he must realize that the scrutiny of the public will be even more concentrated and so, in addition to wanting him to produce at the press office for the government and people of Belize, I also pointed out that he needs to be super careful and ensure that he gives no cause for any kind of public lashing of him and the press office and the government to take place."
