Philloughby Not Sure He’ll Run Again
posted (June 22, 2017)
And one of the councillors the mayor seems to work best with is Phillip Willoughby. But the man, the event called "Philloughby" seemed to be playing cagey with his colleagues when he accompany them yesterday to the UDP Secretariat to put in their names as candidates for the municipal convention. Today we asked him why:...

Jules Vasquez
"Will you offer yourself as a candidate for Belize City council for the upcoming election?"

Phillip Willoughby
"Jules, for various reasons I wasn't with my colleagues when they went to sign in. Over the past year and a half I had to go through 3 major surgeries. It's no big news, but then again because of the nature of those surgeries I need to consult with my medical physician here and one abroad that did the surgery and just to do a personal evaluation of myself to see how well I've progress since the operation. It's not to say it's out there like that and what have you or try to be a male chauvinist or wanting to say 'hey what happen to Phillip?.' No, it's nothing like that."

Jules Vasquez
"Because you've been known to court attention in the past. You're not trying to court attention?"

Phillip Willoughby
"No. I have the - I'll show you off camera the scars tissue what I've been through. I know some close to me know of the procedures I have done. So them hearing saying this it won't come as no news or surprise to them, but it has been a difficult time. But never since then have a complained."

Jules Vasquez
"So you are undecided?"

Phillip Willoughby
"No, I will wait for the review. That's what I am saying."

Jules Vasquez
"You only have until next Friday."

Phillip Willoughby
"I believe we will probably conclude that before. If the doctor isn't in and I have to go and see where he is to do the evaluation, then I'll do so."

Willoughby says if he cannot run - he is willing to support others who would seek to replace him.
