Chopping Murder In San Joaquin, Corozal
posted (June 29, 2017)
Tonight, Corozal Police are on a manhunt to locate this 34 year-old Corozal man, Arturo Tamai Tzul. He is their main suspect in a chopping murder, which happened early this morning in San Joaquin Village.

The victim is 21 year-old Salvadoran Amilcar Omar Moralez Gonzalez, and police say that he was riding home with his 20 year-old Belizean friend, Doniver Ruano.

On the way, they met a girl who was walking. They struck up a conversation with her, and that's when Arturo Tzul appeared. A confrontation started shortly after and Tzul ended it when he chopped both men to the neck.

Gonzalez was fatally injured, while his friend has been traded and released. This afternoon, the police officer in charge of the CIB office in Corozal gave the press a briefing on the case:

Sgt. Fernando Valladarez, OC - CIB Corozal
"Well sometime around 3:30am this morning, Corozal police received information of a fight in progress somewhere by the Fiesta Grounds. As a result, police visited the area where they saw the lifeless body of a Hispanic male person later identified as Amilcar Omar Morales Gonzalez, 21 year old food vendor of San Joaquin Village."

"He was lying on a pave road directly in front of the Fiesta Grounds. He had what appeared to be large chop wound to the left side of his neck and he was apparently dead. Initial investigation into the matter revealed that sometime around 3:20-3:30am thereabout Amilcar Omar Morales Gonzalez and a friend Doniver, 21 year old Belizean of San Joaquin Village were riding on the said road when they came across a female Arhales Sosa. They stop to talk to her and at which time a male Hispanic person approached them. There was an exchange of words between the now deceased and the Hispanic male who has since been identified as Arturo Tzul, 34 year Belizean of San Joaquin Village."

"During the exchange of words Arturo Tzul pulled out a machete and inflicted the chop wounds to Amilcar Omar Morales Gonzalez and he also inflicted a chop wound upon Doniver. However, his injury was not life threatening. He has since been treated at the Corozal Community Hospital and since released."

"The only thing we can say was apparently Arturo Tzul had confronted Arhales Sosa sometime earlier that same morning and when she met up with the now deceased and Doniver, she had mentioned it to them and hence the reason when Arturo Tzul approached them, there was an exchange which lead to this murder investigation."

Police are hoping that the public will help them capture Arturo Tzul. Anyone with information on his whereabouts are asked to contact the nearest police station.

Indications are that Tzul served 14 years of prison time in Mexico, and he recently moved back to Belize after being released. The cops believe that he may have absconded to Mexico.
