City Council Moving Full Speed Ahead With Plan For New City Hall At Old Commercial Center
posted (June 29, 2017)
And while those were the controversial subjects - the mayor really held his press conference to brag about that commercial loan which the city council got to renovate the ragged commercial center. The Mayor said the old commercial center will become the New City Hall:..

Darrell Bradley, Mayor
"And this building will become in a very short period of time, it will become the new city hall. Second floor and third floor will housed city council offices. The ground floor will hold a big auditorium for us to have public hearings, so that we mean to transform city council meetings into a public hearing, so that all of our city council meetings will be a public hearing. Surrounding the building also there will be a "park" - it's not going to be a park, but it will look like a park, so that we will have a boardwalk which will be at the back of the building, which will be accessible to the public so that you can go in the back of the area as well in line with the whole idea of building Belize City as a water city. It's going to provide access for residents to the water - the Haulover Creek, so that residents can see the fishermen's boat and so forth and also there is the discussion of having a strategic business back there. Perhaps a restaurant so that people can enjoy that deck area. The entire lower flat of the building again will be accessible to the public, because we want this to be the people's hall."

Demolition works will start as early as next week, and the council wants to finish work on the building by March of 2018.

The mayor stressed that the council has no present or future plans to sell the present city hall on North Front Street.
